Bloom TV: Salad the Next Viagra

Susan: Good morning, Gail. It’s so great to be here, and it’s so funny that an intimacy expert would be a person always telling people they need to eat more salad, but I’d love to unpack that for you. So, do you understand my logic about why eating leafy green vegetables and having homemade dressing is one of the things that can keep your sex life great?

Gail: Yes. How do we make this special dressing and salad, and why is it essential to eat clean food?

Susan: First, I have to show you my beautiful salad this morning. That looks delicious, right? But when I walk into the produce area of my grocery store, there’s a wall of salad dressings lining floor-to-ceiling, lining the shelves. You look at every single one, and what is in them? Broken fats, bad fats, sugars, thickeners, gum, carrageenan. Gunk and junk that will stop your arteries. They will build arterial plaque.

The problem is when you have arterial plaque, the first thing that your heart starves of blood supply and oxygenation for healing is your pelvic area because it has to go to your brain, heart, and muscles.

Over time you feel more minor sensations, and you have erectile dysfunction. Here’s the exciting thing that nobody talks about. Everybody thinks ED is a guy’s issue when we women have the same amount of tissue that needs good blood flow as our male-bodied partners. If you’re eating the same thing your husband is and he has heart disease, you’re getting heart disease.

Heart disease is a killer for men and women, and the first thing that goes is our lady and gentleman’s parts.

The other exciting piece is that leafy greens create nitric oxide. You want to have good blood flow, but you also need nitric oxide, which pumps the blood around your system.

The way your body makes it is by leafy greens. If you’re not eating a lot of leafy greens, you’re losing that blood flow. If you eat broken fats and lots of sugar, you’re giving yourself arterial plaque. It’s a double whammy. The solution to your intimate problems is a salad. Eat lots of leafy greens with a homemade dressing.

People say homemade dressings sound hard. I’m here to tell you it’s a three-ingredient situation, and you’ve got it all in your cabinet right now.

Do you want to hear how I make it?

Gail: Absolutely. What’s the secret sauce to this recipe?

Susan: It’s so easy. Take a jar now. I use a cute jar, but you can use a mayonnaise jar. You need a pot to shake it up.

What I’m giving you is not anything I invented. This is the classic French vinaigrette, which I jokingly call my Viagrette because it keeps that blood pumping.

There are three ingredients, and I’ve got some bling for you so you can bling it up if you want. I’ll show you my favorite bling.

Number one: A cup of oil. I like avocado because olive oil gets thick in the refrigerator, but avocado stays nice and runny, so you can shake and pour it immediately.

One-quarter cup of vinegar. I like sherry vinegar. It tastes so yummy. You could have balsamic, apple cider, white, anything you have. These things make it french. It is the French master: the dijon.

A tablespoon or two if you like it more mustardy. You put that in a jar, shake it up, and when you pour it on your salad, people will be like, “This is good. Where’d you get this dressing?” Oh, I made it in this jar with three ingredients. My friends tell me, “When you’re coming over for dinner, bring a jar of that salad dressing with you. I love it.” It’s that yummy and popular.

Let’s talk about the bling. May I?

Gail: We only have 30 seconds, though, Susan.

Susan: Chop up a shallot and add it in that. It makes it super french and tasty. Throw in a dried herb like savory or marjoram. Toss and eat it, and get healthy and intimate.

Gail: I love that. Everybody must love it when you come to the party with that salad dressing. Thank you so much, Susan.
